“Hi! My name is Sarah, mum to Jack and Charlie. I’m a former primary school teacher and have always enjoyed sewing. I’ve a GCSE in Fashion and Design, but probably the equivalent of a PhD in how clothes work for children in real-life!
Our eldest Jack was born in Australia. Where we lived only had a few shops selling baby things. When I couldn’t track down an asymmetric cloth bib, I made the Baby Bandana Bib. Shop-bought cloth nappies were way too big for Jack, so I made my own. This turned into One Size Fits Most Nappy Pattern.
Friends asked me to make versions for them. Demand grew and in 2012 I set up Made By Jack’s Mum. At first I sold ready-to-wear clothes, but realised what I enjoyed most was creating original PDF patterns. I continued to build the business during a stint in Yorkshire so the boys could get to know their UK family. We’re now back in beautiful Australia and excited to bring you Waves and Wild!”
The business really grew under the Made By Jack’s Mum brand. However renaming it to Waves and Wild allows us to spread our wings beyond just sewing patterns for babies and children. We think it captures the natural, free, outdoorsy style of our customisable sewing patterns. It’s also a nod to our hybrid UK/Australian approach to design.
It’s fine if you sell clothes made from our patterns. We don’t charge a license fee. However, in the small print for each pattern we suggest it would be kind to make a charitable donation instead of paying us a license fee.
